About University of Manchester

The University of Manchester is one of the UK's largest and most prestigious universities, formed in 2004 by the merger of the Victoria University of Manchester and UMIST. It has the UK's largest single-site campus and an extraordinary research heritage β€” 25 Nobel Prize winners are associated with the university, including the team that isolated graphene in 2004.

Manchester is strong across virtually every discipline, from physics and engineering to business, social sciences and the arts. Its Alliance Manchester Business School is one of the largest in Europe, and its School of Materials is world-leading. The university has invested Β£1 billion in campus development over the past decade.

For North American students, Manchester offers a recognisable global brand, a massive range of programmes, and one of the UK's best cities for student life. The city has direct flights to many North American destinations, a legendary music and football scene, and a cost of living significantly below London.

The city itself is the main draw β€” Manchester has one of the best music scenes in the world (Joy Division, Oasis, The Smiths all came from here), two Premier League football clubs, a Chinatown, a thriving Northern Quarter for independent culture and more restaurants per capita than any UK city outside London. Student life is intense, diverse and social.
